I was at the movies yesterday and I saw this commercial for Bioshock Infinite while the theater was filling up. Usually I’m pretty annoyed by the pre-movie stuff they show, but this ad grabbed my attention because of the epic song by Nico Vega called “Beast.”
Bioshock Infinite is the third game in the Bioshock series, a popular first-person shooter. This third installment doesn’t follow the storyline of the first two games though, and the gamer plays as a former pinkerton called Booker DeWitt in 1912. DeWitt is tasked with finding a little girl, but once he does, things get a little crazy between two warring factions in a floating city called Columbia. It turns out the girl is important to the two factions and it’s you’re job to just start shooting stuff until the problem is solved.
And shoot stuff you do. At least according to the trailer, which is mostly made up of first-person views of stuff getting shot, beautiful settings, and other instances of blood and gore.
While all this is going down though, Los Angeles trio Nico Vega supplies a bluesy, rocking soundtrack with “Beast,” A tune from the band’s 2009 debut album. The song takes elements of gospel, blues, and good ol’ rock ‘n’ roll to create a fiery track that blends really well with the high-intensity shots of the game on the screen. Lead singer Aja Volkman’s vocals call to mind Alison Mosshart of The Kills and The Dead Weather. Her voice as a fierceness to it that really gives the track some teeth. The thumping drums and fuzzy guitar fill things out and make for one big monster of a song. “Beast” could not be a more appropriate title.
Bioshock Infinite is set to hit shelves in March 2013 and Nico Vega’s second full-length album, We Are The Art, has a tentative release date of spring 2013. Check out the trailer below and get pumped. There’s a little bit of language and some bloody imagery so I’m gonna go ahead and call the trailer NSFW.
