I’ve been seeing this ad for the 2013 BMW X1 a lot lately. The commercial features the new BMW crossover vehicle with some windsurfing shots and other extreme activities interspersed throughout. Car commercials aren’t usually that exciting visually (mostly just shots of the car being driven on empty roads) with a voice-over. This one isn’t much different except for the funky backing track courtesy of Riccitelli.
There’s little to be found on the web on Mr. Riccitelli other than his first name is Patrick, he’s German, and his website could use a little work. But “Move On” has that nice mix of acoustic/electric guitar and bluesy vocals that bring to mind Citizen Cope or maybe John Mayer. Based on his first single, Riccitelli may be a name we hear more often in the future, especially on those adult alternative radio stations.
BMW’s tagline, “All with a little extra room for your personality,” ties the whole commercial together nicely. As far as car commercials go this one isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but the commercial song used here should at least perk your ears up a little. It’s only a 30-second ad so the track itself is kind of chopped up, but even so it manages to make an impression.
“Move On” is solid pop song that would fit nicely on your next chill out mix between John Butler Trio and G. Love and the Special Sauce. It doesn’t go so far as to make me want to hand over the cash to buy a new BMW, but I will definitely be spending the 99 cents it takes to add “Move On” to my collection.
Sweet laughter for my dry bones I gotta move on
