Phenomena - Show Your Bones

The newest Cadillac ATS commercial is pretty awesome. Now, I’m not a girl who gets all excited about cars, but this commercial is so visually thrilling that it kind of makes me want to trade in my beat-up Ford Focus for an ATS. Well done Cadillac. The commercial is titled “Cadillac ATS vs. The World” and features the song Phenomena by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Cadillac provides the following description for the commercial “The all-new Cadillac ATS traveled the world to challenge some of the most punishing roads on Earth. Watch as we challenge the ATS’ advanced features and set the standard in every corner of the earth”. The ATS goes to some amazing places in this commercial: Patagonia, the Tizi-n-Tichka Highway in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, the Guoliang Tunnel in China and the Monaco Grand Prix Circuit with Phenomena playing in the background. Phenomena is the perfect song and the lyrics go well with the commercial’s theme of car driving awesomeness:

You’re something like a phenomena
Something like an astronoma
Roll kid, rock your body off!

Something like a phenomena, baby
You’re something like a phenomena
Something like a phenomena, baby
You’re gonna get your body off

Don’t fall asleep with the motor on
She’ll make you sweat in the water

Phenomena is off the Yeah Yeah Yeahs 2006 album “Show Your Bones”, which is a great album you should check out. I mentioned to fellow writer Rassles about being at Lollapalooza in 2009, watching Tool’s set and how Maynard told the audience about being bummed out to be missing the Yeah Yeah Yeahs because they were playing at the same time. (Me too, Maynard) And from this review, you can see why.

this is a crap commercial, crap car, and crap song. terrible music. I just threw up in my mouth thinking about those horrific vocals.

I feel like there are definitely more puke-inducing vocals in the music world than Karen O.’s. But to each his own.
