I love when we get requests to identify songs from commercials outside of the US. They often help me unearth music, US and non, that has evaded my killer-tune radar. Such is the case with this Chevy commercial song for Chevy Mexico, promoting the Trax 2013 model.
This one’s a tough, albeit amusing, example of adapting an existing track. The music featured in this ad is taken from Kids of 88′s “Just a Little Bit” sans original male vocals. The female vocals here seem improvised, or at least with different lyrics from the original, making this not just a cover. A mashup, perhaps, but unidentifiable. If it exists and you know it, please share!
Perhaps it’s best that they changed the vocals, considering the original is almost too overt to be subliminal, which would give a whole new meaning to the ad. No need to “get unprofessional, baby.” The new vocal track here adds more complex cadence compared to the standard rhythmic original. Very much dig the synth-pop punch of the original though.
As much as I’ve tried, no luck on identifying the lyrics here other than “to discover” and “I’ll take you for a ride.” Too much vocal reverb.
