Dow Olympics Commercial 2012 – “Hopeful”

Share

Dow Olympics commercialThanks to Layla for requesting this one! We’ve written about a Dow Chemical commercial once before, but we still don’t “get” Dow. We’re pretty sure they don’t sell products directly to the public. Can you think of any other business-to-business companies that put ads on television? Hm. Maybe it’s just to help their reputation? They are a chemical company, and environmental activists might take issue with chemical companies, so maybe ads about being “green” help combat that?

Anyway, this Dow Olympics commercial is as playful and sweet as their last one. A green man who basically looks like a walking shrub moseys his way around the grounds of the Olympic games. We see him on a bus in London arriving at the Olympics, checking out his dorm room, fencing, being too scared to jump off the high dive, and more. We like the touches of humor, such as when he places a small plant on his nightstand to make the dorm feel like home, and when he sees a man trimming bushes and backs away.

The song is custom, but Dow made it easy on us by letting us know it is called “This Dream” and was made by Paul Hogan. We’re sure hoping he’s the same Paul Hogan listed in iTunes. (We listened to a few of his 2004 tunes and think it could be.) Here’s a link to that guy’s music for download:

The lyrics in the spot are:
I wanna go
I wanna win
This is where the dream begins
I wanna grow
I wanna try
I can almost touch the sky
So clear, so bright
[Something, something] inside
So gold and sweet
This dream

I just adore this song. I have the video and song on my “Favorites” and I’ve played it several times. The song is so catchy. I’d love to know the (something, something)words which are not intelligible. Thanks to Dow for such a cute commercial.

Hey, just a note, the lyrics “[Something, something] inside” should be “Not a cloud in sight”

This song is definitely catchy. It’s a cute commercial but I’m having a little bit of a hard time deciphering the real message though.
