Dream Brother interview – Artist of the Week, September 24th – 30th, 2012

Dream Brother

It’s a new week, which means we’re featuring a new artist! (Last week our Artist of the Week was CHAPPO.) Dream Brother is an indie band from Minneapolis and we are grateful band member Ian took time to answer our questions. We wrote about Dream Brother twice before–in a Pioneer wireless speakers commercial post and in an Eharmony commercial post. “Like” their Facebook page and read their blog if you’d like to hear more from them. And without further ado, the Dream Brother interview:

Many of our readers are curious about what goes on behind the scenes. How did your song come to be in this commercial?

For this particular commercial, the song was pitched to the ad agency by a good friend of mine who runs his own licensing company. So, the company came to him for a song, he then came to me to pitch that particular song, and then he connected the dots.

Most musicians were exposed to music early on. Was music a big part of your life as a child? If so, can you see ways what you listened to then influences what you create now?

Music was all I did as a kid. My parents were quick to feed me a good dose of the Beatles as well as a fair share of 80s hair metal. I think that explains a lot about me.

If your music could be in any commercial at all, what would you want it to be in? What type of company would be the “perfect fit” with your sound?

That’s a great question. Truthfully, I’ve always wanted one of my songs to be used by NPR between segments.

What is your favorite food? Do you have a favorite song about food? Are any of your own songs about food? Can you tell we love food around here? (Don’t answer that last one.)

I really like oatmeal cookies. So, I’d have to say “C Is For Cookie” by the Cookie Monster would be at the top of my list.

What’s next? Do you have any albums or tours people should be on the look out for?

The next Dream Brother release will be in November/December, followed by a Doom Brother release in early 2013.

Thanks for the awesome questions!
Ian

NPR? Ian, you wuss! Of course it’s a good answer, but it feels so…safe.

Question: If someone wanted to use your music in a Cash4Gold commercial, would you do it? Would you demand to be paid in cash or gold?

I think it only seems “safe” because we live in Chicago and are surrounded by liberals. In some places the mere existence of NPR is rather controversial!

        True, true.
