Live and Die - The Carpenter

You know, I was never a big fan of the Gap because I am a tall person with long legs and Gap pants seem to be made for not-tall people with not-long legs. Seriously, even their so-called “long” pants look like capris on me. But, I think it’s time to make amends. I’m sorry, Gap, and thank you. The Avett Brothers are super cool and were it not for this Gap commercial, I wouldn’t know who they are.

I’m not sure how I managed to not hear of this family folk rock duo from North Carolina until now. I guess my mind was filled with other thoughts, such as where to find pants that don’t show my ankles. These guys have a great sound and the simplicity of the commercial goes with the clean, casual look Gap is trying to sell. I also like that the musicians are front and center rather than a mystery to viewers.

Here are the lyrics in the ad:

Can you tell that I am alive?
Let me prove it.

You and I, we’re the same.
Live and die, we’re the same.
You rejoice, I complain,
but you and I, we’re the same.
Live and die, we’re the same.
You and I, we’re the same.
Hear my voice, know my name,
You and I
You and I
