Gears of War Mad World Commercial (2006)

By now, this is practically a classic in commercial song usage, but in case you forgot about it–here it is.  Gary Jules‘ cover of “Mad World“ in the original Gears of War commercial.  It was first used in the 2001 film Donnie Darko and has since been used in a lot of other places, but it was this commercial that drove “Mad World” to the top of the iTunes charts.  The song was first written and recorded by British new wave band Tears for Fears in 1982, and is quite different than the now better-known cover–not sure it would have quite the same effect in this spot (but why hasn’t someone made a version on youtube yet?).
