Okay, so this one isn’t from the request form. But I just saw this commercial and I figured I would do all our lovely readers a favor and answer their question before they asked it.
Google is goin’ totally punk rock with its new ad for the Chromebook. The Chromebook is Google’s surprisingly non-tablet entry into the recent tablet wars. iPad? Kindle Fire? Microsoft Surface? Google’s like, “Nah. Mini-laptop.” So punk rock.
It makes sense, then, that they would take a lo-fi, high-energy approach to the ad. Culled from videos from around the interweb (including those adorable dancing twins), Google lets you know exactly who the Chromebook is for. Old people, babies, dogs — everyone can use a Chromebook.
The ad is just lots of quick shots of people while The Death Set’s blistering “Negative Thinking” blasts over the visual collage. The noisy jam is the perfect companion for the ad. When taken together, this commercial just grabs you by the lapels and rattles your teeth a bit. It’s a 60-second whirlwind.
You gotta hand it to Chromebook for coming up with such a head-turning ad. The next time I see this one I’m cranking it up instead of reaching for the mute button. Who cares that it’s not a tablet? Let’s party.
If I felt cynicism, I’d wrap it in a blanket of discontentment
I feel better knowing that I decided not to
When you were looking ’round, you veered to the right
Did you notice that?
And I feel better knowing that I decided not to.
In hindsight, I don’t want to be like the people I’ve liked.
