I’m so glad our reader Josiah requested this one because I love this song.
Secondly, dang Google. Could you cool it for a second with the good music in your ads? It seems like we write about Google once a week — but I’m not complaining. This time instead of Chrome or Chromebook, we’re checking out Google’s new family of smartphones and tablets, the Nexus 4, 7, and 10.
The ad shows people asking Google all kinds of things and then using their appropriate Nexus devices to find the answers. Everything from “Was Rome built in a day?” (if you keep your eyes peeled you can Google suggests searching “was Romeo built in a day” instead) to “How do you get to Sesame Street?” are posed to Google and Google does its best to answer all of the questions.
Sondre Lerche, a singer/songwriter from Norway, adds his song “Sleep On Needles” to the spot and everything falls into place. The opening line “Ask me anything you like” ties in well with the concept and Lerche’s easy vocals and catchy chorus really stand out. Again, Google makes the song a huge component of the ad by cutting down on dialogue and relying on editing to get the point across.
“Sleep On Needles” comes off of Lerche’s debut album, Faces Down, which was released in the United States 10 years ago. Hopefully this ad will bring a little bit more recognition to the hardworking, but still relatively obscure artist.
Ask me anything you like
I’ll reveal everything
I will treasure the truth
You could know anything
I am but a fool to play unaware of things
If I’d treasured the truth
I would tell it to you
I’m coming down to tell you what I know
To say what’s real, to let you know
Where I have been and how I had to
Sleep on needles
You’ll believe you are hard
Sleep on needles
