Contrary to popular belief, the band performing in the new Heineken Skyfall commercial is not The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, (stars of the last Heineken commercial we covered) but a different fair-haired maiden named Gin Wigmore. Now that that’s all cleared up let’s talk about this totally slick new commercial.
As could be expected from a movie tie-in ad, this thing is straight-up cinematic. A case of mistaken identity leads to a high-intensity chase through a train that also includes henchmen, ice statues, craps, a house of cards that resembles The Kremlin and of course Bond, James Bond. This one is a little film in itself. I can’t quite get used to 007 drinking beer, but maybe he needs a break from all those martinis every now and then.
Of course leave it to Heineken to uncover a classic sounding New Zealander for the soundtrack. Wigmore’s infectious “Man Like That” from her 2011 album Gravel & Wine is the perfect catchy complement to the ad. Handclaps, horns, and great backing vocals make it stand out against the backdrop of such a sprawling commercial. And Wigmore’s cameo kinda makes me wish I was dancing on that train, too.
Heineken has proven once again that they know how to pick some serious jams for their ads. Even in a commercial with Daniel Craig, the music still manages to be the star.
