Girls On Film - Greatest

This H&M commercial is from the fall of 2011, which means figuring out the song must’ve really been bugging our reader DJ Lady B for a while now! (If you want to find out who created the song in your favorite commercial, fill out our request form.)

I dig this commercial because it works. After watching it I want to go to H&M and buy some clothes and walk around in slow motion looking really cool and tilting my head around. The lyrics “Girls on Film” seem to fit, too. I mean, the commercial is just some good-looking girls on film, right?

If you dig a little deeper in history, the song no longer seems as fitting. The song in the commercial is a remixed version by Mona Donnerman (who is not on iTunes). The original version was by Duran Duran and caused quite a controversy back when it came out in 1981. The video, which is fairly tame by today’s standards, was banned by BBC and the then brand new music video channel, MTV. All of the uproar surrounding the video pushed the group into the spotlight even more. To watch the possibly NSFW video, click here.
