Kmart dubstep commercial

Google searches for this Kmart dubstep commercial (titled “The Walk”) have been blowing up and it just came out! You kids are crazy for your dubstep, eh? Well we’re over here chillin’, still sort of young but way out of high school, and watching this commercial brings up memories of days gone by. Do your parents buy you a whole bunch of clothes for the new school year? We bet they do. Well, feel good about yourself knowing that back in the day, lots of people only got a back to school outfit. Yes, singular. One new outfit to wear on the first day of school, and that was it! We still strutted as hard as the students getting off the bus in this 2012 Kmart commercial. The first day of school really is the day to show your stuff and let people know who you’re going to be this year. Good luck with it, teenz & tweenz!

Anyway, back to what you’re here for. The song is called “Phunkshock” by Matroda. Click the button to download it on iTunes:

The song has no lyrics, but there is a voice over at the end that says, “The back to school collection at Kmart. Work it.”

Holy crap, did they say, “Work it”?

    • Jessica Thompson

Ha, ha. Yes! I should add that to the post.

    • Hunter

What happened to the days when dubstep was odd and created outcasts, now its “in”. This time next year all the kids will be loving hardcore metal.
Time to find a new different genre -.-

  • Th3 M@in M@n

No offense but the music sucks.

    • Amelia

I don’t think people have been google searching it to find out why that awesome song is…. They are trying to figure out WHO THE F*** WOULD MAKE MUSIC FOR A KMART COMMERCIAL…

      • JLB

Lol. You guys are so stupid, apparently people have different music tastes……. -_- and yes we have been trying to find out the song.

        • Skitzo

Song name ? Just read under the first pic, phunkshock by Matroda

      • Anon

You’re right. I’m a teen and I googled it to see if anyone else was saying how stupid this commercial is, not cause I like that s***

    • stephen

your a moron no offense you suck

      • Clayton

Calling someone a moron because they hate dubstep? That makes you a moron for not knowing the meaning of respect for opinions.

        • Matt

Nevermind the not knowing respect for opinons. The dude can’t even figure out the difference between “your” and “you’re”.
          Irony…

      • The Changer

You’re. Spell the right way, and your point will come across with a bigger punch.

  • Glenn

What its the little girls name with the pretty eyes. The first picture you have in this article. Thank you.

  • dia

Glenn, who cares what her name is. Unless you’re an agent who wants to make her a million and one dollars, you just sound creepy. Kind of like a pedophile wondering where the closest park is.

  • Xena

Ikr Glenn i want to know her name too, she’s super pretty!

  • http://idonthaveone jamaikah phillips

the first one with the pretty eyes whats her name nd dnt say it doesnt matter…but i just wanna know shes realy good

  • Sam

Those kids are like 9. They should be strutting to Hannah Montana or wheels on the school bus. Save Skrillex for the teens, young ones.

  • Jesse

    So it isn’t skrillex e.e

  • Sandy

I thought it was Skrillex too, as well did my mom. She then said it was too nice (docile, perhaps) to be Skrillex.

  • gio

i like this song still wont shop there though and its similar to Bangarang or is that just me

  • K mart shopper

The voice over at the end makes the
    commercial! That girl’s voice
    is perfect!

  • Fashion girl

I think the girl with the voice over was really cool sounding. She made me want to go to Kmart and work it !!!!!!

  • Ugh

Anyone else totally skeezed out by this commercial? Don’t get me wrong I like electronic and dub step music, deny it all you want, but it’s absolutely associated with drug use and partying. So that’s problem number one I have, why were making the connection between kids and that sweet filthy bass. Problem two I have is with the little girl people are already commenting on is attractive. Its clear by her slow turn, hair whip and glossied lip pucker that it was their intention to sexualize her in this commercial. Ugh. Just ugh.

  • Tyler

    Matroda – Phunkshock

  • Lol

I agree with Fashion Girl. The voice over was such a perfect voice.

  • Sandy Damico

Music is great but doesn’t fit the commercial. They should have used a pop song rather then using dubstep. Dubstep fits more of the action/badass genre and I doubt that k mart is badass.

    • Skitzo

Pop wouldnt work. As they had to Entertain us young adults while they were shooting. Lol

  • Rob

How ironic they got the K-mart version of skrillex

  • Skitzo

Pause on 16s you will see me on the top right corner of the screen.

  • Carla0812

Forget the music! The fashions are an argument FOR school uniforms.

  • s.e.r.h.

when i first saw this commercial, i cared nothing for the clothes. iu was glued to the song… i- if that makes since.
i was like, “OH MY GOSH, IS THAT SKRILLEX?????” but then i realized a second later… “it.. isn’t skrillex…”

    i was so sad… i think…

  • s.e.r.h.

it sounds like it says, ‘Aloha’ in the mid-begining of the song.

  • Your mom

Hey everyone. Let’s clear some things up here. First off, this isn’t dubstep. Second, no one makes music for K-mart or any other commercial unless it’s some kind of stock tune. The music you hear in most commercials now-a-days is sold to the company by the artist’s record company, because they are money hungry w***** who would sell their first born child for one of their artist’s songs to appear in a commercial on a Super Bowl TV spot.

    Ok children, Recess.

  • - deemiteeitee

    - what is the pretty girl name ?

  • PERSON

-.- I thought this was Skrillex… It’s HIS style of music, and knowing that it isn’t his music gets me kinda heated :

  • Marielle

I googled the song because when I first heard it I thought it was some whacky remix of Addicted to Love. I still can hear it in the “lyrics”. Am I crazy?

  • Denes

Awesome song! Thanks for the help finding it!!

  • cabezon

You know what’s worse than dubstep for Kmart? Lust for life for a cruise line.

  • G-Spence

Funniest blog I’ve read in a good minute. The song sucks kids. You’ll forget about it soon if you already haven’t. Like the drugs and partying comment. Glenn, you are weird as s***. You probably just made/used another email account and name to make it appear as though at least one person was willing to have your back.
