Magnum Ice Cream Gets Hot and Heavy with Rachel Bilson and Supercharango

When it comes to Magnum Ice Cream, Rachel Bilson can't say no!

Song: Leap

Artist: Supercharango

If you’re a guy with a Magnum, Rachel Bilson wants you to fill her mouth…with ice cream.  That’s right, folks – there’s a new Magnum in town – Magnum ice cream!  This treat guarantees to satisfy, boasting vanilla bean ice cream, a layer of caramel sauce, all covered by a “thick” layer of Belgium chocolate.

Based on the advertisement, this is the sexiest ice cream bar I’ve ever seen.  Rachel Bilson stars in the commercial.  You may remember her from The O.C., but even if you don’t, you’ll remember her from the way she sells ice cream.  She plays a lady who’s stuck in traffic.  When she sees the Magnum truck on the highway, she hops out of her convertible, walks over the police car ahead of her, and stumbles to the ice cream truck, where the attractive driver has opened the “back door” and has a Magnum ready for her to consume.  The commercial states “nothing will keep you from Magnum.”  Not the cop car ahead of you.  Not the approval of your parents.  Not society’s judgmental glare.  As Rachel Bilson bites into this naughty ice cream bar, we hear the tag line of the commercial – “Magnum Ice Cream – for pleasure seekers.”  That’s the point where I have to step outside and have a cigarette.

The song in the commercial is great – but the artist is a bit of a mystery.  It’s very reminiscent of The Dandy Warhols, who were responsible for We Used to Be Friends (the theme from Veronica Mars), and Bohemian Like You, which was featured in the 2001 commercial for Vodaphone in the U.K.

The song in this commercial is  Leap  by Supercharango.  There is very little information to be found about Supercharango.  There are a few message forums that state Supercharango is the alter-ego of Argentinian musician Juan Carlos Dusio.  Upon going to the Supercharango website (supercharango.com), I had to translate the information from Spanish to English.   It became evident that Supercharango specializes in music for commercials.  Based out of Argentina, they have won a ton of awards from the early 2000s to the present.  You can visit the Supercharango facebook fan page at www.facebook.com/supercharango.  This artist is so exclusive that they don’t even have an iTunes page.  Luckily, I was able to find Supercharango on Soundcloud.

“Supercharango” is almost as good of a band name as “The Stomachmouths.”
