Another Monday, another Artist of the Week. This week we are featuring Parov Stelar, a (rather handsome) musician from Austria who plays both with a band and as a DJ. We previously wrote about his Bing Originals commercial song and Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas commercial song. After you finish admiring his photo, “like” the Parov Stelar Facebook page and then read our Parov Stelar interview below. Thank you, Parov!
1.Many of our readers are curious about what goes on behind the scenes. How did your song come to be in this commercial?
I have a business partner, who is responsible for exactly those parts: Giving authority and the license for my music.
So the process is usually the following:
We are receiving a request from a company, where they illuminate their idea first of all…which song they would like to have, how they will present their product etc. and if I am in favor with it, I agree and my partner is doing all the legal and organizational measures with the company.
2. Most musicians were exposed to music early on. Was music a big part of your life as a child? If so, can you see ways what you listened to then influences what you create now?
I am not able to remember, not making music, it has always been a very important part of my life…and so there have been many different influences during the long period of time, from growing up, starting in the music business and now being a musician since 15 years.
Every song is based on a special experience, impressive feelings, journeys I did, people I met and get inspired by etc.…
So finally there are so many incredible things that motivate me to start writing and producing songs.
3. If your music could be in any commercial at all, what would you want it to be in? What type of company would be the “perfect fit” with your sound?
Difficult question.. and to he honest, it’s impossible to give you an answer like naming a brand. My motivations and influences are always different, that’s why every song is different and in general there is a high variety in sounds and styles that I produce. So I think there is no general perfect fit with a brand or a company.
I believe the perfect fit is being created from case to case and depends on the work of my publishing partner as well as the agencies and music supervisors work. But I can tell you… I work with the best people and I’m happy how things develop.
4. What is your favorite food? Do you have a favorite song about food? Are any of your own songs about food? Can you tell we love food around here? (Don’t answer that last one.)
Fist of all, I prefer homemade food and so I am not really in favor with Fast Food.
Further, we have a really good Austrian Cuisine, so there are many delights.
If I have some time – being at home with my family – I really like to cook on my own – and I always cook on tour in the nightliner for the entire crew. I love eating and cooking. But unfortunately I don’t have a favorite song about food… sorry!
5. What’s next? Do you have any albums or tours people should be on the look out for?
People should always keep themself updated!
I do not want to reveal to much, but we are still working on very interesting projects for 2013 in different artistic fields….
And usually we’re on tour during the whole year… I don’t like too long tours, but I often tour. We’re around in Europe a lot this year and I’m really looking forward to do our first US tour in December.
