Red Vines are delicious. I think most of us can agree with that, but this is the Internet after all. Please don’t start a flame war over the deliciousness of Red Vines.
Anyway, upon seeing this commercial during some late-night channel surfing, my first thought was, “Why does Red Vines even need to advertise?”
Apparently they don’t need to advertise that often, because this commercial is actually from 2008. That doesn’t make it any less cool though. The stop-motion ad shows a guy and a girl on a balcony sharing a Red Vine. The dude drops part of the Vine off the balcony and suddenly the Vine starts crawling up the side of the building, making a giant, tasty, tree mural of sorts. Director Paul B. Cummings estimates something like 10,000 Red Vines were used in the making of the commercial.
The soundtrack comes courtesy of alt. rock group Mostly Sunny. “More Than Anyone Else” comes from the band’s debut album appropriately titled Debut. If you dug the music featured on the Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World soundtrack, then this is a band for you. Fronted by Jen McElrath, Mostly Sunny makes upbeat, harmony-rich songs that reflect its moniker perfectly.
When it all comes together, Red Vines has made a pretty solid ad, and one that still stands out five years later. Whether you agree that Red Vines are crazy delicious or not, I think we can all agree that this song is pretty dang catchy.
