There’s a new movie based on a Nicholas Sparks novel. Does that guy just write books and sell them to Hollywood right away? I guess putting “from the author of The Notebook” is gonna keep putting the butts in the seats, so why not? In Safe Haven, a beautiful woman on the run from the law meets a beautiful widower and the fall in love the way only two beautiful people can. But the beautiful woman has a dark secret and she must confront it with the help of her beautiful new beau. Oh, and obviously this movie comes out on Valentine’s Day.
An anonymous reader just saw this in the theater and needed to know what song was in that trailer. It’s a cover of the Fleetwood Mac classic “Go Your Own Way” by the amazing Lissie. The song appears on her 2011 EP Covered Up With Flowers that also features a great rework of Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness.” Lissie’s version of “Go Your Own Way” is a lot less rockin’ than the original, giving it kind of a haunting vibe by slowing down the tempo and cutting out the harmonies on the chorus. It’s an interesting take on a classic song, and that is what makes any cover song great. It’s what the American Idol judges call “making it your own.” Her bluesy vocals and the ethereal backing track really makes this one stand out.
The song is probably the most interesting aspect of the trailer for me, but if you’re into what ol’ Nicky Sparks does than I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with this. People fall in love, there’s some kind of problem that threatens that love, problem is resolved and love conquers all. Happy Valentine’s Day.
Maybe I’m being too cynical. Check out the trailer below and see for yourself.
