Sears Appliances Beach Commercial 2012

Sears Appliances’ latest commercial starts out pretty much like any other recent summertime youth-oriented ‘fun in the sun’ spot. It features two good-looking twenty-somethings frolicking on a picturesque beach (that apparently no one else is into) to a shimmery upbeat jam provided by a little-known indie band (in this instance “Come Home” by NYC’s Chappo). This particular couple are a real piece of work – they’re young, they’re gorgeous, they’re in love with each other, modern retro design, baby blue hues and terse words of encouragement – they’re listening to vinyl records at the beach! But, then just as you couldn’t possibly want to be them (or want them to get over themselves) any more the commercial takes them down a peg with a refreshingly jarring slapstick turn. We LOL’d. The song is from the band’s 2012 album, Moonwater and the following lyrics are featured in the commercial:

Take everything, take it all

Take my keys, take my flare, take it all

Take my shoes, I’m riding solo
