At first I asked myself, “Why is someone requesting a Tide commercial song from 2009? One with an easy-to-identify song at that?” There couldn’t really be someone out there who has spent the past three years wondering about it, unable to problem solve enough to Google the phrase “Cool like that,” right?
Right. That’s when I figured it out. One of you is obviously in love with me and knows that I adore the Digable Planets and early 90s hip-hop in general and wanted to brighten my day by giving me a fun song to cover. In this spot, we see various washing machine knobs turn toward “cool” or “cold” as the lyrics, “I’m cool like that” echo in the background. It’s a sweet-looking (and sounding) commercial until chocolate pudding stained t-shirts come into the picture. I know this spot is old, but advertisers, if you’re reading–please note that early 90s hip-hop makes an ad so memorable that people are still thinking of it three years later. Three years!
